Michael Chandler, Paddy Pimblett and other fighters pay their respects to MMA legend Georges St-Pierre

Several UFC fighters have expressed respect and admiration for Georges St-Pierre in a video posted by UFC to its official YouTube channel.

The likes of UFC’s top lightweight Michael Chandler and rising rival Paddy Pimblett all have winged praise for the former UFC light and middleweight champion.

Michael Chandler thinks Georges St-Pierre is the perfect MMA athlete. He also emphasized that despite being away from the sport for a few years, ‘Rush’ has returned and successfully claimed the UFC middleweight belt. Chandler stated:

“If you were to create the perfect mixed martial arts athlete, he would be like Georges St-Pierre, he would move like Georges St-Pierre. The man is an absolute legend. ” Chandler added, “I will never forget when Georges St-Pierre announced that he was about to retire at the age of 185. [middleweight] to fight Michael Bisping for the belt. ” Chandler continued, “Georges St-Pierre marched to the beat of his own drum. That’s why we love him. That’s why he’s a legend.”

“He’s shown that you don’t have to be this rude, quirky character if you want to be successful in the sport.” Pimblett also notes, “Matt [Hughes] Hit him. And he came back and beat him both times in dominant style.”

John McCarthy in the GOAT debate between Georges St-Pierre and Kamaru Usman

Many in the MMA community believe that reigning UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman could soon surpass Georges St-Pierre as the greatest 170lb fighter in MMA history. Usman has only lost once in his first career outside of the UFC, and is unbeaten inside the octagon.

However, MMA pioneer and former referee John McCarthy recently suggested that Georges St-Pierre’s legacy is bigger now by Kamaru Usman. McCarthy explains:

“No, he [Usman] There is no better legacy. He added, “GSP also went up and won the middleweight belt, Kamaru Usman didn’t make it, he still has a lot of work to do.”


Georges St-Pierre’s last MMA fight took place in November 2017 at UFC 217, defeating then-middleweight champion Michael Bisping to win UFC gold in the second weight division. ‘Rush’ officially announced his retirement from MMA in 2019 and was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame’s Modern Era Fields in 2021.
