The three penalty points brought her to 12 – which subjects her to a suspension under the “summation” rules.

Her solicitor, James Findon, told Cheltenham Magistrates’ Court: “She is looking after her father in London.

“If she were to become unfit to drive, it would require three trains and two buses.

“The travel time would be more than eight hours.”

He also provided letters of support from Sir Michael’s wife – her stepmother – to Shakira.

It would also affect an eventing company she supports, the court heard.

However, District Judge Nicholas Wattam found that a ban would not cause “extraordinary hardship”.

Ms Caine, from Gloucestershire, must also pay £324.
