Met Office warns of heavy rain and winds to hit Britain this weekend amid Arctic cold -8C

Unstable rainy and windy weather will remain for the next five days

The Met Office says worrisome dry weather will persist over the next four or five days, particularly in the northwest, although conditions are not expected to be as severe as in the past week.

Met Office chief meteorologist Frank Saunders said: “A cold front, followed by cold air over Canada’s Arctic, has now swept south across the country and brought a spell of windy weather. showers and cold.

“Northern Ireland, Scotland and parts of northern England will see some more snowfall, mostly in the hills, for the rest of today and in places tonight.

“High winds mean possible blizzards on higher roads and severe nationwide weather warnings have been put in place.

“The high pressure that built up on Friday resulted in a nice bright day for most people. However, the winds are coming as we head into the weekend with weather fronts bringing rain to the north and west and milder air coming back here.”
