MESUT OZIL has revealed his back surgery “went well” having been on the sidelines a long time ago.
The former Arsenal star went under the knife earlier today in a bid to resolve the longstanding problem.
The 33-year-old, who now plays for Istanbul Basaksehir, has suffered from numerous back problems in recent years and has missed 31 games since 2018.
Now Özil has given his fans a positive update on his condition after the operation.
Sharing a photo of himself showing thumbs up in his hospital bed, he wrote on Instagram: “Today’s surgery went well ✅🙏🏼 Thank you again everyone for your messages and prayers – may God bless you all! 🤲🏼❤️”
Before his medical intervention, he had said: “Unfortunately, I will be out for a longer time.
“I’m going to have surgery this weekend to finally get my back pain free.
“I will try everything to get back on the pitch as soon as possible. Thank you for all your love and support.”
Ozil, who was sacked by Arsenal in 2021, joined Istanbul Basaksehir in the summer on a first one-year deal, 29 minutes after his Fenerbahce deal was ripped up.
He was ‘excluded’ from the Fenerbahce squad after a row with then-interim boss Ismail Kartal.

But the former Germany international had a nightmare start in life with Basaksehir.
Ozil, playing for reserves, was beaten 7-1 by Kasimpasa in a humiliating debut defeat.
He has since made three appearances for the first-team, most recently off the bench in the 3-0 Europa Conference League win over Fiorentina on 15 September.
However, his recovery time now means he can spend more time at home with his family.
Wife and former Miss Turkey Amine Gulse gave birth to their beautiful daughter Ela last month – their second child after girl Eda who was born in March 2020.
