Özil, 33, has had persistent back problems in recent years and has missed 31 games since 2018.

And he hopes to go under the knife to cure his ailments.

He tweeted: “Unfortunately I will be out for a longer time.

“I’m going to have surgery this weekend to finally get my back pain free.

“I will try everything to get back on the pitch as soon as possible.

“Thank you for all your love and support.”

Ozil, who was sacked by Arsenal in 2021, joined Istanbul Basaksehir in the summer on a first one-year deal, 29 minutes after his Fenerbahce deal was ripped up.

He was ‘excluded’ from the Fenerbahce squad after a row with then-interim boss Ismail Kartal.

But the former Germany international had a nightmare start in life with Basaksehir.

Ozil, playing for reserves, was beaten 7-1 by Kasimpasa in a humiliating debut defeat.

However, his surgery allows him to spend more time at home with his family.

Wife and former Miss Turkey Amine Gulse gave birth to their beautiful daughter Ela this week – their second child after girl Eda who was born in March 2020.
