Melania Trump hails Ukraine message as she calls Russia’s invasion ‘heartbreaking and terrible’ in a rare tweet

MELANIA Trump asked her 2 million Twitter followers to donate to the International Committee of the Red Cross in support of Ukraine on Monday.

Fans are praising former first lady for sharing a tweet calling for a Russian attack on Ukraine “heartbroken” and “terrified” in the first public remarks about the invasion.

“It’s heartbreaking and horrible to watch innocent people suffer,” the former first lady said.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Ukraine.”

Melania calls for donations for Red Crosswhere the money will be used to meet an “urgent humanitarian need,” according to their website.

“I am extremely concerned about the safety of communities in Ukraine,” said Peter Maurer, president of the ICRC.

“Our message to the parties to the conflict is clear: comply with International Humanitarian Law, protect civilians and essential services.”

Melania’s comments are in direct contrast to the former President Donald Trumplast week’s statement where he praised Vladimir Putin’s plan to invade Ukraine, calling it “genius”.

While speaking on a conservative podcast, the 45th President insisted that the Russian army would never advance if he remained in office.

“If handled properly, there is absolutely no reason why the situation currently unfolding in Ukraine should have happened,” he wrote in a statement.

“I know Vladimir Putin very well, and he would never do in the Trump Administration what he is doing now, no way!”

Melania’s tweet comes after she reveals her social media platform of choice not Twitter or even her husband’s app, but Parler.
