Meghan Markle will travel to Holland with Prince Harry next week, on the first trip outside the US since the couple left the royal family

MEGHAN Markle will travel to Holland next week with Prince Harry for her first trip outside of the US since the couple left the royal family.

It comes after Harry, who is embroiled in a legal battle with the British government over his police protection, became the only senior royal not to attend his grandfather’s memorial service at Westminster Abbey.

He has said he does not feel safe returning without Scotland Yard officers at his side.

However, he and Meghan will fly to the Netherlands for the games, which take place between April 16 and 22.

And the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be joined by a Netflix documentary crew during the games, reports The Mirror.

It’s believed Meghan could join Harry on stage at the opening ceremony, with insiders promising “a big surprise to kick off the event.”

A source said: “Meghan is looking forward to traveling with Harry to the event which is sure to be close to his heart.”

But last night former Met Inspector Ken Wharfe, who worked in private security for Harry, William and Princess Diana, said the potential risks of the competition were far greater than those the Duke would face in London.

Police and security services in the Netherlands have declined to say whether he will receive royal protection, although it is considered extremely likely.

Mr. Wharfe told MailOnline: “I’m baffled as to why Harry thinks he would be safer in the Netherlands than the UK.

“He would have traveled with his brother or father to his grandfather’s memorial service and received protection from the Met.

“It’s not like he showed up at Westminster Abbey on a bicycle.”

It is understood that Harry wanted to bring his children Archie and Lilibet and his wife Meghan to the service.

It is believed that little Lilibet only met her UK-based family through video chats.

It comes like The Queen has “regrettably” pulled out of an Easter event next week.

Your Majesty95, was due to attend a service at St George’s Chapel, Windsor on April 14, but is being represented by instead Prince Charles and Camilla.

It is the first time that the Prince of Wales has taken the Queen’s seat at the Green Day service.

The annual event is a key part of the royal calendar and will result in Charles following the old tradition of distributing Maundy money to the ward’s faithful on Thursday.
