Meghan Markle and Prince Harry say they stand with Ukrainians as they accept the NAACP President’s Award for Public Service

MEGHAN Markle and Prince Harry showed their support for Ukraine when accepting the award on Saturday.

The pair were on stage at the NAACP Image Awards when Harry called attention to the suffering of Ukrainians at the hands of Russia.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex received the President’s Award for exceptional achievement and outstanding public service.

The award recognized their work through the Archewell Foundation, including their support throughout the Covid-19 pandemic and the attention paid to the Black Lives Matter movement.

Harry thanked the Black community for the warm welcome before taking a moment to mention the Russian attack on Ukraine.

“Before I begin, we want to acknowledge the people of Ukraine, who urgently need our continued support as a global community,” he said.

“I also reiterate my immense gratitude for tonight, for this award, and for this community that has welcomed me so warmly. I think it’s safe to say that I come from a very different background from others. his incredible wife, but our lives were tied together for a reason.We share a commitment to a life of service, a responsibility to fight injustice, and a belief that things Most often overlooked are the most important things to listen to.”

The comments came after it was revealed that a child was killed by Russian artillery Fire fell on a children’s hospital in Ukraine yesterday.

Two other children were injured in the explosion that hit the Okhmatdyt National Children’s Specialist Hospital, according to Kyiv Independent.

Powerful air raids expected in Kyiv at around 9pm last night as Russian planes filled the sky.

At least 198 Ukrainians, including three children, are believed to have been killed and 1,115 injured so far, the Ukrainian government said.
