The iconic shamrock shakes will be joined on their return by their sister dessert, the Oreo Mint McFlurry, which first launched in 2020, NJ.com reported.

The soft serve and mint combo is only available for a limited time, often while supplies last, and fans should note that not every venue is participating in the years-old tradition.

The McDonald’s Finder App can tell you every American McDonald’s that honors the Shamrock Shake tradition.

You can even use the Shamrock Shake Finder app, both available for iOS and Android.

HISTORY OF THE SHAMROCK SHAKE

According to How Stuff Works and the Ronald McDonald House, Hal Rosen created the Shamrock Shake in 1967.

However, there is a big discrepancy between the origin story of the shake.

According to How Stuff Works, the drink when it premiered was the classic vanilla with a lemon-lime flavor.

The outlet claims that at the time, the shake only had the typical soft serve flavor with green food coloring.

It apparently changed in 1983 to the hint of mint that’s now the treat’s signature, WOBM reported.

In 1974, proceeds from Shamrock Shakes funded the construction of the first Ronald McDonald House in Philadelphia, according to the organization’s website.

According to SI Live, there are at least seven locations in Staten Island, New York that are serving Shamrock Shake this St. Patrick’s Day season.

While the official date of when the shamrock specialty will disappear again isn’t clear, it will likely disappear after St. Patrick’s Day.
