Since Daniel Ricciardo left Renault at the end of 2018, Red Bull has not had a single driver to support Max Verstappen while fighting to win. While Sergio Perez has been much more consistent in delivering strong performances since joining this year, he has suffered from the same weakness that his predecessors at Red Bull did – elimination round, qualifying round.
However, “Checo” Perez played a key role in helping his team at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix decide on the title by creating a spectacular fight against Lewis Hamilton. Despite using soft tires for nearly 21 laps, Perez successfully held off Hamilton just long enough for Verstappen to close the gap.
After winning his first F1 world title, Verstappen thanked Perez for his efforts with a friendly hug at Parc Ferme.

Apart from a few races, Sergio Perez outstripped Max Verstappen’s qualifying speed by almost half a second throughout the season, thus affecting his net position in the race.

Max Verstappen tests 18-inch tires at the Pirelli tire test in Abu Dhabi
Newly crowned F1 world champion Max Verstappen is still in Abu Dhabi testing Pirelli’s 18-inch tires alongside most of the drivers from the 2022 grid.
F1 will usher in a new era for next year, with an all-new formula that is supposed to make the cars easier to track, thereby allowing for closer races. The new technical regulations also aim to make the design and technology of F1 cars relevant to the real world and have practical applications in the automotive sector.
As part of the big changes, the smaller and sleeker 13-inch tires are now being switched to larger 18-inch tires. Throughout this year, all teams have performed at least one test tire sampling and have given their feedback to Pirelli – Official F1 tire supplier.
