Mauricio Pochettino wants Premier League return after PSG axe… but wouldn’t move to Arsenal because of Tottenham ties

MAURICIO Pochettino aims for Prem return after sacking at PSG

Argentinian Poch was finally released from months-long managerial purgatory when he was dropped from PSG and replaced by Christophe Galtier.

And the former Spurs boss is already eyeing the next big vacancy in the Prem as he prepares for a quick return to top-flight football.

Pochettino has kept his London home even after being sacked by Tottenham in October 2019.

Spurs boss Daniel Levy was keen to bring him back to N17 last summer just for Poch to stay in Paris.

With Antonio Conte now installed in lane and in command, the door to a Tottenham return appears to be closed.

But while his love for Spurs means Pochettino would rule out the prospect of a move to Arsenal if Mikel Arteta were shown the door, SunSport reckons the South American would be ready to consider any other ambitious and serious Prem team draw.

A close friend said: “Mauricio has never hidden his belief that he feels happier in the Premier League than anywhere else.

“He loves it in England and he also knows that he is admired here for what he has done in the past.”

There are no obvious vacancies at this point and Pochettino will regroup and wait for the situation to change, confident that if a situation arises he will be at the top of any manager’s wish list.

Pochettino has previously worked in Spain and has been linked to jobs in Italy and Germany.

But England are his preferred option as Pochettino believes his track record of developing talent for the Three Lions will be another feather in his cap.

Pochettino would also return, having taken the ‘trophyless’ monkey off his back after narrowly failing at Tottenham with those Champions League, Prem title and League Cup near misses.

PSG were the first ‘Big Five’ champions last season, winning Ligue 1 in April and winning by 15 points while also lifting the French Cup in their debut season.

The 50-year-old is also aware that leaving PSG is not the end of a manager’s career, as two of his three immediate predecessors – Thomas Tuchel and Carlo Ancelotti – have subsequently won the Champions League and the third, Unai Emery, is carrying on to win the Europa League.

Poch has also elicited what is arguably the best season of Kylian Mbappe’s career from the Frenchman, despite pressure to field both Neymar and Lionel Messi in a front trio.
