Police are investigating claims that Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood broke bail conditions by paying for designer clothes for his alleged sex victim.
It is alleged that the woman had access to his bank account – although she was due to testify at the player’s trial.
The clothes were bought online and sent to her address last week
One of the charges against the footballer, who was accused of breaking bail rules last month earlier, is coercive and controlling behaviour.
He will also face charges of attempted rape and assault at his trial next November.
Greenwood, 21, who has also played for England, appeared before a judge at Manchester Crown Court on Monday.
Judge Maurice Greene reminded the £75,000-a-week striker his bail conditions remain in place.
They should forbid him any direct or indirect contact with his alleged victim.
But it is alleged that a Greenwood bank account was used to buy £86 worth of women’s clothing from online fashion brand Luxe To Kill on Friday.
The company was allegedly ordered online to deliver the items to the alleged victim’s home address.
Greater Manchester Police are aware of the alleged purchase and are investigating claims that it could constitute a breach of Greenwood’s bail.
A source told the Sun on Sunday Greenwood did not place the order.
Greenwood, from Bowdon, Gtr Manchester, was first arrested by police in January this year on allegations involving a woman after pictures and videos were posted online.
He was released on bail but was arrested again last month after being pictured with his alleged victim in breach of his terms.
He was remanded in custody after appearing in Manchester Magistrates Court on October 17 but was released on bail two days later after a private hearing.
The attempted rape is said to have taken place in October 2021.
The controlling and coercive behavior relates to a period between November 2018 and October this year, during which he allegedly made threatening and derogatory comments towards the complainant, as well as accessing and monitoring her social media accounts.
The allegation of assault dates from December 2021.
Greenwood was suspended by United bosses after his arrest.
England manager Gareth Southgate gave him his Three Lions debut in September 2020 aged just 18 for a Nations League clash against Iceland.
Prior to his arrest, Greenwood was valued at around £50million and is considered one of the hottest young talents in European football.
The defendant is expected to appeal the charges at his next court appearance on February 10.
