Mason Greenwood faces a bail hearing next week as the investigation into “rape and sexual assault against women” continues.

MASON GREENWOOD will face a bail court hearing next week as the investigation into his arrest continues.

The Manchester United star’s bail request will be heard in a closed court next week after he was arrested on suspicion of raping and assaulting a woman.

After the arrest of footie star Mason Greenwood in January, an investigation is ongoing, he has since been released on bail.

An investigation into the allegations is ongoing and Greater Manchester Police have applied to the courts to extend his bail.

The hearing will take place next Thursday 23 June at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court.

But the press and public aren’t allowed to attend – and Greenwood, 20, isn’t expected to be there.

Greenwood was arrested in January after police received a report of pictures and videos posted online by a woman reporting incidents of physical violence.

The England striker was initially held on suspicion of rape and assault, but was then arrested again on suspicion of sexual assault and death threats.

The young star spent three nights in police custody before being released on bail.

In April, police said they would continue to investigate the allegations and try to extend Greenwood’s bail, but a court hearing would not take place until mid-June.

A magistrate at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court confirmed today that the hearing will take place next Thursday.

She added that it would not take place in court and Greenwood did not have to attend.

United have confirmed the player will not be available for selection or training with his team-mates until further notice.

A statement from the club said: “We are aware of the images and allegations circulating on social media.

“We will not comment further until the facts are established.

“Manchester United does not condone violence of any kind.”

Nike later canceled its endorsement deal with Greenwood after saying it was “deeply concerned by the troubling allegations.”

His last appearance for the club was a 1-0 win over West Ham on 22 January.

Greenwood scored six goals in all club competitions before his arrest.

He made his only appearance for England in their debut against Iceland in September 2020 but was then sent home along with colleague Phil Foden for breaching Covid guidelines.
