The crippled 20-year-old also carried a gun loaded with a bolt, the safety catch disengaged and ready to fire.

He then told a guard, “I’m here to kill the Queen,” before being handcuffed and arrested.

Her Majesty was inside with son Charles and wife Camilla at the time.

Chail now faces jail after admitting three charges under the Treason Act today.

The most serious charge under Section 2 of the Treason Act was that “on 25 December 2021 at Windsor Castle, in the vicinity of the person of the Queen, you knowingly manufactured or possessed a loaded crossbow with intent to use the same to assassinate the person of to offend Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, or to distress Her Majesty”.

He was also accused of threatening to kill the Queen and having a loaded crossbow, an offensive weapon, in a public place.

Chail had arrived in Windsor around 8.10am as the royal family celebrated Christmas inside.

He is believed to have scaled the perimeter of the site using a nylon rope ladder about two hours earlier.

A police officer said Chail looked like someone out of a vigilante movie or dressed up for Halloween.

The former supermarket worker was detained near the monarch’s private residence, within sight of her apartments.

The Old Bailey was told he wanted revenge on the facility for treating Native Americans

Chail had also sent a video to about 20 people claiming he was trying to assassinate the Queen

He previously reportedly applied to join the Defense Ministry Police and Grenadier Guards to get close to the royal family.

The last person to be convicted under the Treason Act 1351 was William Joyce, also known as Lord Haw-Haw, who collaborated with Germany during World War II.

Chail, who was detained at Broadmoor Hospital, will be sentenced on March 31.
