A Hollywood actress drowned in a New York river on Sunday.
Mary Mara, 61, was found in the St. Lawrence River by New York State Troopers and other rescue workers in Cape Vincent.
The city is about 90 miles north of Syracuse near the US-Canada border.
Police believe Mara drowned while swimming, but an investigation is ongoing and her remains were taken to the Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s office for an autopsy.
Mara was from Syracuse and was living in Cape Vincent at the time of her death.
She graduated from Corcoran High School before attending San Francisco State University and Yale.
During her 30+ year career, Mara has appeared in over 20 films and 40 television shows including West Wing, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Love Potion No. 9.
Mara also played Jill in Lost, Loretta Sweet in ER and Nance in Shameless.
