Martin Tyler was forced to apologize after saying Ukraine ace Heorhiy Bushchan would continue after suffering an injury in the game against Wales

MARTIN TYLER apologized for saying injured Ukraine goalkeeper Heorhiy Bushchan had to “move on”.

But being so quick to apologize didn’t save the Sky Sports commentator from unforgiving comments on social media during Wales’ historic 1-0 win.

The Dragons reached the World Cup finals for the first time in 64 years, despite many neutrals supporting Ukraine over Russia’s invasion of their neighboring country.

Fans gave Tyler a little slack after his poor choice of words as Bushchan was crushed by an ankle injury.

It’s the kind of slip that many pundits and fans must have made without even realizing it since the war began in February.

But while Tyler was perceptive enough to recognize this and apologize, he was immediately criticized on Twitter.

One fan wrote: “Martin Tyler just said the Ukraine goalkeeper was ‘soldier on’ and promptly apologized for saying so. He’s really just terrible. #WALUKR.”

Another said: “No way Martin Tyler just said the Ukraine keeper will move on.”

One even teased: “Wow. Retire.”

But others defended Tyler — arguing he just used an innocent “figure of speech.”

These opinions included: “Odd. What he said is an idiomatic expression” and “Some people are offended by everything”.

Some followers also suggested it was Tyler who initiated the apology — so he was “not forced” to do it.

One said: “It’s a figure of speech. Nothing wrong with that. Leave the poor man alone.”

Another wrote: “Wasn’t forced. He thought it was a good idea.”
