MARCUS RASHFORD and Jadon Sancho have been warned they face heartbreak at the World Cup.
England manager Gareth Southgate revealed the two Manchester United stars now both face an uphill battle to make the Qatar squad.
Rashford and Sancho played for the Three Lions at Euro 2020 last summer but endured a poor season at Old Trafford.
And Southgate said: “They have a lot to do to get back into the squad.”
England meet Hungary in the Nations League at Molineux tomorrow night and Harry Maguire is the only United player in the squad.
Left-back Luke Shaw was out through injury but will be going to the World Cup.
Three Lions boss Southgate has not closed the door on Rashford, 24, or Sancho, 22.
He hopes both see a massive improvement in their form under new United boss Erik ten Hag – but their hopes of making it to Qatar do not look good.
The last of Rashford’s 46 caps came when he missed a penalty in the Euro 2020 penalty shootout loss to Italy.
Sancho – with 23 caps – has only played one game for England since the Wembley final, when he also missed a penalty.
