Man’s Obit urges to bet a bunch on Husker – NBC10 Philadelphia

Milton Andrew Munson’s obituary recounts his life as an Air Force veteran, a pharmacist, husband and father, and a Nebraska football fan. That’s evident in one line in the obituary: “Instead of flowers, place an irresponsibly big bet on Nebraska beating Iowa.”

Munson, 73, died Nov. 16. The obituary, written by Munson’s sons, was published Thursday in the Hastings Tribune, Lincoln Journal Star reported. It went viral on social media and caught the attention of two radio hosts, Josh Peterson, who co-hosts the afternoon sports talk show on KOZN-AM in Omaha, and Jack Mitchell of KLIN-AM in Lincoln.

They decided to throw some money in and place a bet so Husker could make a fuss at Friday night’s game in Lincoln, but when word came in, listeners and others joined in and the total rose to nearly 5,000 dollars.

“I mentioned it (Monday) on the air,” Peterson said. “We talked about it for four or five minutes and said, ‘This is my Venmo if you want to donate.’ It’s been blown up. ”

Munson’s son Todd joined Peterson’s show on Tuesday and said the family will give some money to the Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and will use some to bet on Cornhusker to beat the Hawkeyes, those backed by a point-and-a-half.

Todd Munson, a writer who lives in Los Angeles, said he and his brother had a complicated relationship with their father, who battled bipolar disorder and addiction. But when they chat, it’s almost always Huskers involved.

Todd’s brother, Troy, a neurosurgeon in Des Moines, Iowa, said Milton Munson’s love for Husker, and gambling, must be part of his story.

Nebraska quarterback Adrian Martinez will be on the field for Friday’s game, but Todd Munson wrote on Twitter that Husker will get some help from elsewhere.

“If the ghost of my old man can’t beat Husker on Friday, then they really are a loser.” Man’s Obit urges to bet a bunch on Husker – NBC10 Philadelphia
