Paul Merson has urged Man United to break the bank to get ‘phenomenon’ Declan Rice.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Merson said: “I think Declan Rice will leave this summer. I think it would be Man Utd, if you were Man Utd you would default.

“If you look at their midfield, it’s not strong enough, they don’t dominate football games and for me they have to go and get him.

“I think he’s the best in the business, he’s improved a lot, he’s taken his game up not by one or two, I think he’s raised it tenfold.

“From a holding midfielder, he is attacking forward, scoring goals, creating chances and scoring goals. I can’t speak highly enough of this guy, I think he’s absolutely phenomenal. “
