Manchester United have been pushing to sign him since the transfer window opened in June.

Despite already having a £72million deal with the Catalan giants, the Red Devils are slowly losing hope of bringing him to Old Trafford.

De Jong has made it clear he doesn’t want to join United and would rather stay in Spain.

But Barcelona officials are trying to force him out of the club, saying he should cut his wage demands or else he will have to leave.

The club already owe De Jong around £17million in unpaid wages but bosses believe negotiating a move would settle any financial differences.

And while a move to Manchester now seems increasingly unlikely, Chelsea have emerged as potential suitors.

The Blues are said to be close to finalizing a £67.6million deal with Barcelona for the midfielder.

A deal would likely please all parties, with De Jong reportedly ready to move to Stamford Bridge.

Therefore, Barca bosses have scheduled a meeting to be held TODAY to clarify the Dutchman’s future.

According to Spanish outlet Sport, De Jong’s agent Ali Dursun will be present alongside HCM Sports Management’s Hasan Cetinkay.

They will discuss the prospect of moving and potential wage differentials if he decides to stay.

De Jong was recently berated by Barcelona fans when he arrived at the club’s training ground.

Supporters continued to berate him, shouting, “Lower your salary, b****!”

This comes after it was revealed that Barcelona were unable to register new signings Franck Kessie, Andreas Christensen, Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and Jules Kounde due to financial problems.

As a result, Kessie and Christensen may have to leave the club for FREE if they fail to register by Saturday – before they even play a competitive game.
