Man Utd ‘tell Barcelona they want a transfer deal for Frenkie de Jong in place by Friday’ with issues over retroactive wages

MANCHESTER UNITED have reportedly given Barcelona until Friday to finalize Frenkie de Jong’s transfer.
The Red Devils have awarded the 25-year-old Dutch midfielder a £55m transfer fee.

And Chief Executive Richard Arnold and Football Director John Murtough were snapped in the Spanish city on Monday after the bigwigs flew there to enforce the deal.
However, there is a major sticking point with retrospective wages at Barcelona that throws a big spanner in the works.
De Jong agreed to a pay cut during the pandemic to help Barca in cash trouble and is owed £24m.
They want United to pay it but Old Trafford board are adamant they won’t.
Now TalkSPORT claim the Premier League club have told the LaLiga giants they want everything settled by the end of the week.
United have only signed one player so far this window for new boss Erik ten Hag in left-back Tyrell Malacia.
And the United boss is desperate to attract more recruits.
Ten Hag said: “In my first press conference, I already said that we are definitely looking for players in midfield, we also have needs in attack. We are still looking for players.

“It’s going to be a long season, but a season that’s quite unusual given the World Cup.
“So you have to be prepared for that and you need more players than in a normal season.
“We want to use the right players. If the opportunity arises, we will strike.”
Christian Eriksen is also expected to join the club on a free transfer next week.
