MANCHESTER UNITED have reportedly joined the race to sign Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig.
United manager Erik ten Hag is keen to strengthen his January squad with a new defender high on his wish list.
And according to Foot Mercato, Gvardiol is its primary target.
The Red Devils are understood to have already made an offer of around £77m for the Croatia international but face stiff competition from rivals Manchester City and Chelsea.
While Chelsea are also believed to have made an offer of £77m for the defender, Man City have put in the highest bid, worth over £86m including bonuses.
Gvardiol is currently one of the most sought-after defenders in Europe with numerous clubs vying for his signature.
Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona have also expressed interest in signing him, while Bayern Munich have scheduled a meeting with his agent.
However, Gvardiol is said to be interested in a move to the Premier League.
The 20-year-old was a standout player for Croatia at this year’s World Cup.
He played a big part in helping Zlatko Dalic’s side reach the semi-finals of the tournament and he received plenty of praise for his performance against Brazil this week.

Man Utd legend Rio Ferdinand was one of many to compliment Gvardiol on his aggressive style of defense.
He said: “I have to say he’s been my favorite defender of the tournament so far.
“He’s got a great presence, he’s looking forward to the fights, he’s very physical and he has a magic wand for a left foot. He also has pace and I think all those qualities that you need as a modern defender.
“He can play the ball over different distances, he’s spot on. He hits any type of press, is comfortable on both feet and is just as comfortable with the ball at his feet as he is running with it defensively.
“Also the aggressiveness. He’s ready to move forward, that youth, that fearlessness. He’s got fast enough feet for someone his size. Everything about him was so positive for me.”
