Man Utd step up transfer hunt for Benfica keeper Odysseas Vlachodimos, raising doubts about David de Gea’s future

MANCHESTER UNITED are reportedly still interested in signing Benfica goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos.
The Greek stopper was on their radar in the summer as they attempted to replace Nottingham Forest’s Dean Henderson.

United instead opted to sign Martin Dubravka from Newcastle to replace current No. 1 David de Gea.
However, according to Greek outlet Sportime, the Red Devils’ interest in Vlachodimos has only increased since the summer.
They add that United have thoroughly tracked down the 28-year-old this season.
Benfica are believed to want around £17.5m to sell their sought-after goalkeeper.
Sportime claim Vlachodimos could even be a contender to replace De Gea as first-choice racquets – as the Spaniard’s contract expires next summer.
They claim United are also interested in Trabzonspor’s Ugurcan Cakir and Dinamo Zagreb ace Dominik Livakovic alongside Vlachodimos.
Vlachodimos impressed in Benfica’s 1-1 draw with PSG last time out, only to be beaten by a Kylian Mbappe penalty.
Since joining Benfica from Panathinaikos in 2018, he has made 185 appearances, keeping an impressive 74 clean sheets.

However, Vlachodimos could have a job replacing De Gea as the Spaniard recently admitted he would like to stay at Old Trafford beyond his current contract.
The veteran stopper told BT Sport: “I’m just very focused on the games to help the team as much as I can.
“Of course I would like to stay here for more years, so let’s see what happens in the future. I’m really, really happy here.”
