Man Utd star Harry Maguire says football fans went way too far after sending him a BOMB THREAT last season

The Manchester United star and his family were forced to flee their homeland after the email threat in April. Cheshire Police searched the premises but no device was found.

Maguire said: “Of course I will be criticized. Manchester United paid a large sum of money for me, they are one of the most popular clubs in the world and one of the most hated.

“We know that we are the most scrutinized. I accept criticism when we concede goals or make mistakes. I’m big enough to accept people getting on my back and saying I can improve.

“But there is a limit to where we humans are. I have a family.

“It doesn’t affect me too much, but when it comes to bomb threats, it’s more about my family – my fiancee Fern.

“I’m just glad my kids are at an age where they don’t read and don’t watch the news.”

Maguire has joined the England squad for four Uefa Nations League games, the first on Saturday in Hungary.

The 29-year-old defender had a nightmare season with United, who finished sixth in the Prem.

He said: “Yeah, it’s been a tough season, you can’t hide from that.

“As the captain of the team, it was nowhere near good enough.

“Football is my life. It’s important to me to get the club where the fans deserve it.

“When you come across United fans on the street, they are amazing.

“You’re under a lot of pressure, so there will be fans who care about you – but our fans stay with you.”
