He was mostly used as a hitter substitute, with Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Antony and Bruno Fernandes being chosen ahead of him.

Now that the January transfer window closes on Tuesday, Elanga is receiving interest from elsewhere.

According to journalist Rick ElfrinkPSV are ‘working hard’ to land the Sweden international in the Eredivisie.

And it could be a tempting offer for Elanga as they are coached by Man Utd legend Ruud van Nistelrooy.

The legendary striker, 46, confirmed in a press conference on Friday that his side are trying to sign new faces.

He said: “Obviously I can’t name names, but we’re working flat out on it [signing players]because it is necessary.”

PSV are currently six points behind leaders Feyenoord in the Dutch top flight.

They have outperformed all their rivals except Ajax but remain keen to strengthen their forward options.

Elanga has contributed four goals and four assists in 48 games for Man Utd.

Meanwhile, PSV are also looking for another player to grace the Old Trafford pitch in Adnan Januzai.

The 27-year-old Belgian left United in 2017 and spent five years at Real Sociedad.

He then joined Sevilla last summer but is already being linked with a move after just six appearances for the LaLiga side.
