Nunez took advantage of Ibrahima Konate’s error to smash a low cross from Rafa Silva and showed brilliant composure to slot the ball past Alisson.

He was a thorn in Liverpool’s side and could have added a second but sent his header wide.

United scouts were present at the Estadio da Luz and have now watched the Uruguyan ten times, according to The Express.

Red Devils representatives also saw Nunez against Barcelona earlier in the season, with the forward scoring two goals.

Liverpool scouts were also believed to have seen him at the time with representatives from Manchester City, West Ham, Newcastle Arsenal and Tottenham, all of whom were reportedly present on Tuesday.

There is no lack of interest in the forward, who has impressed with 28 goals in all competitions this season.

Toon tried to sign him in January but had turned down several offers and Benfica were demanding more than £50m to let him go.

Newcastle are reportedly set to return for Nunez in the summer, with the striker believed to be high on their wish list.

But they will likely face competition from Arsenal as The Gunners are desperate to land a goalscorer.

Nunez could be available for £68m in the summer and that could appeal to United with Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcus Rashford’s futures uncertain.
