Man Utd provided a major boost as their top star is set to return for the game against Everton despite international injury fears

KEEPER Andre Onana is set to save Erik ten Hag from a headache – by returning to Manchester United’s game at Everton on Sunday.

The new summer signing is expected to recover unscathed from a groin injury he sustained during international duty against Cameroon.

Onana was forced out against Mauritius last Friday with a groin problem and was left out of the squad for the game against Libya on Tuesday evening.

United have struggled with fitness issues this season.

And coach Ten Hag would have had no choice but to give Altay Bayındır his debut this weekend if Onana was still struggling.

Turkish star Bayindir cost £4.3million from Fenerbahce in the summer.

But journalist Fabrizio Romano suggests Onana will be in United’s line-up when the Premier League resumes this weekend.

Nonetheless, Cameroon’s football chiefs confirmed that the 27-year-old former Inter Milan star was not present for the World Cup qualifier on Tuesday.

They said in a statement: “The medical imaging performed by the national selection doctors revealed disease in the pubic bone.”

“Fecafoot (Cameroon FA) wishes the Cameroon international a speedy recovery.”

Meanwhile, FC Bayern Munich are said to have shown a surprising interest in out-of-favour United centre-back Raphael Varane.

It is believed the Bundesliga champions and officials will be keeping an eye on the situation but believe his salary would be a major stumbling block.
