Man Utd news LIVE: Cristiano Ronaldo wants to leave and Erik ten Hag ‘will not stand in the way’, Ramos eyed Varane BOOST

The end of the street

David de Gea’s days at Manchester United are numbered because he’s not good enough to play from behind, claims Gary Neville.

The former Manchester United star opened up about Erik ten Hag’s philosophy after the 6-3 derby loss to Manchester City.

He said on the Gary Neville podcast: “We all know where Ten Hag wants to take this United team, he wants 75 per cent possession, players who can handle the ball, defenders can handle the ball and the goalkeeper has to be brilliant Ball.

“I suspect with David de Gea that his United career under Ten Hag will be short-lived.

“He is [Ten Hag] will firmly believe that his philosophy of playing from behind, playing those risky passes into midfield that we see all the time with Ederson, which we no longer see as risky because they do it so well, is something what he aspires to and what he wants to achieve.”

The Spanish goalkeeper’s contract expires at the end of the season.
