MANCHESTER UNITED are reportedly considering a transfer for Rafael Leao as an alternative to Cody Gakpo.
The Red Devils are set to rekindle their interest in Dutch ace Gakpo in January after courting him last summer.
Club bosses opted for Antony instead but are looking to recruit another striker in January after axing Cristiano Ronaldo.
Gakpo, 23, was reportedly available for around £25million last summer.
But his brilliant performances at the World Cup have seen that price double to £50million.
According to the Mirror, AC Milan star Leao is on United’s list of alternatives.
The Portuguese ace, like Gakpo, is currently taking part in the World Cup in Qatar.
Leao, 23, scored his first international goal in the group stage, scoring in his side’s 3-2 win over Ghana.
The left winger has been in top form for his club this season too.
He has scored seven goals and provided nine assists in 20 appearances in all competitions.

However, Gakpo is believed to still be United’s main target.
The full-back scored in all of the Netherlands’ three group games at the World Cup against Senegal, Ecuador and Qatar – and also helped them get past the United States in the round of 16.
Speaking after the game, he refused to dwell on his future.
But international team-mate Virgil van Dijk appeared to diminish United’s interest.
The Liverpool defender said: “Are Manchester United and Real Madrid on the same level? No disrespect, not at all.
“I definitely think he has that next step in him. I definitely have a feeling it could happen, whether that’s in winter or summer or next year, time will tell.
“He’s a great boy who works hard, is very talented and definitely has more in him.
“We are very happy that he is doing so well. May it stay that way for a long time to come.”
