MANCHESTER UNITED are set to make a new contract offer to Manuel Akanji to convince him to leave Borussia Dortmund.
The defender’s future is running high with his current contract set to expire in 2023.
And United are looking to capitalize on that situation, keeping an eye on Akanji as a solution to their current dire defensive situation.
According to Bild, the club will offer the midfielder a contract worth £240,000/week.
That’s almost double his current contract at Dortmund, which is rumored to be £130,000/week.
And given Akanji’s contract situation, Dortmund are ready to let him go in the summer, should the player want to leave.
The German giants are said to have set an asking price of £20.8m to let Akanji go before that.
But that fee could be reduced as Akanji cannot leave next year.
Dortmund are said to have opened talks with the Switzerland international over the possibility of him staying but there has been little progress.
Akanji could refuse Man United to stay at Dortmund if the Red Devils do not qualify for the Champions League.

But Akanji is said to be asking Dortmund to stay for £160,000/week, which could result in a price push for them.
If he joins Harry Maguire’s place in the team there could be pressure despite his role as club captain.
United stars are said to have questioned Ralf Rangnick’s continued selection of the Englishman despite his lousy form this season.
