Diallo, 20, was able to help the club qualify for the Premier League play-offs after a good season.

The winger has scored 14 goals and provided four assists in his 42 appearances for the club.

However, after losing to Luton Town, he failed to help the club progress to the playoff finals.

After the defeat, the Ivorian sent a heartwarming message to the club’s supporters: “One day we will meet again.”

The touching words were accompanied by a collage of images from his time as a Sunderland player.

And the new fans he’s won wish him well on his Man United return.

One fan asked him on Twitter to “remember” her if he “wins the Champions League”.

A second tweeted: “You’ve been amazing this season! You are always welcome in Sunderland. All the best for the future!”

A fourth wrote: “Thank you for your time at our club. I will follow your future career with interest and wish you every success.”

A fifth said: “It’s been a pleasure watching you this season. You are a special player. Thanks for the memories and some spectacular goals ❤️🤍.”

While another added hopefully: “‘Someday’ once the transfer window opens? I can hope, right?”

Hopes are high for Diallo after finally starting to show his potential following his £37million move from Serie A club Atalanta.

He made three Premier League appearances for the Red Devils and was on loan at Rangers, scoring three goals in ten SPL games.

Diallo will have the summer to prove he deserves a spot in Erik ten Hag’s first-team squad ahead of next season or face another move from the club on loan.
