Man Utd legend Roy Keane says Brian Clough BEAT him after game but ‘it was probably the right thing to do’
ROY KEANE revealed Brian Clough once beat him after a game for making a huge mistake.
The midfielder played under the legendary manager at Nottingham Forest between 1990 and 1993.
Keane often describes Clough as the best manager he’s ever had – better than Sir Alex Ferguson.
And despite once being on the end of a punch from Clough, he forgave the old Forest boss, declaring it was probably deserved.
Recalling the incident on Sky Sports, Keane, 51, said: “He hit me once after a game but it was probably the right thing to do.
“A couple of punches didn’t hurt. I threw a quick back pass against Crystal Palace which equalized – which wasn’t my fault – and after the match he hit me!”
Former Forest goalkeeper Mark Crossley has also spoken out about the incident and agrees with Keane that the goal wasn’t the Irishman’s fault, it was his.
He said: “Cloughy was waiting for Keano in the dressing room because Roy used to sprint off the pitch and he was always first after a game.
“But the gaffer hid behind the door – out of his steps and he punches Roy in the stomach and says, ‘Never pass the ball back to my goalkeeper, young man.’
“It was actually my fault but he hit Keano and I think that was just his way of letting him know I’m the gaffer and you do as I say.

Despite this, Manchester United legend Keane still votes Clough as his favorite manager due to his “real warmth”.
He also claims that signing Clough to Forest was the pivotal moment in his career as it all kicked off.
