De Gea’s contract expires on Friday and he has yet to agree on a new contract with the Red Devils.

The Spain goalkeeper had reportedly signed a contract extension before the club pulled out due to Ten Hag’s concerns about De Gea.

It looks like he is leaving the club after 12 years after posting a cryptic tweet on Wednesday as his contract expired.

Ten Hag has even hinted De Gea will leave after reportedly stopping Heaton from joining Luton Town this summer.

The Telegraph The United manager is reportedly reluctant to let the veteran goalkeeper go despite his desperate desire to leave.

A move to Luton would have made the 37-year-old the first choice between the posts.

However, Ten Hag is not ready to lose the former England international as his goalkeeping problem continues.

Heaton returned to United in 2021 but has only made three competitive appearances since then, mostly acting as De Gea’s back-up.

Fellow understudy Dean Henderson is also expected to leave United this summer, although recent reports have said he could remain at the club.

As for a new goalkeeper, United are heavily linked with a move from Inter Milan’s Andre Onana.

The Italian giants’ transfer boss flew to Manchester earlier this week to finalize the deal but the transfer has yet to be agreed.
