Mbappe’s contract with PSG expires in 2024 but there is a clause that says he will stay until 2025.

However, the extra year is a player option, meaning it’s up to the striker to decide whether or not to trigger it.

The 24-year-old star reportedly sent the French champions a formal letter informing them that under no circumstances will he activate this option.

Just yesterday, PSG insisted he would not leave the Parc des Princes in the upcoming transfer window.

But the Parisians need to sell him this summer lest they lose him on a free transfer next year.

And now United fans are raving about his bombshell, hoping the reports are true that Sheik Jassim won the United takeover race so they can win the world champions.

One supporter tweeted: “If Man United take over Qatar we will sign Mbappe!”

Another wrote: “Mbappe leaves PSG and Qatar joins United, Qatari sources simultaneously shared. Do you think what I think?”

A fellow supporter said: “Announcing Sheikh Jassim, Qatar and Mbappé at United is all I want to hear.”

Another wrote: “Manchester United are being taken over by Qatar and at the same time MBAPPE are not signing. Something is cooking.”

Qatar’s Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani vied with Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Ineos to buy the Red Devils.

Ineos was the front runner in acquiring a 60 per cent stake in United, which would have left the Glazer family in a reduced role at Old Trafford.

But according to Al-Watan newspaper, owned by Sheikh Jassim’s father, Qatar’s bid for Man United was successful.

They add that after “successful” talks, an announcement of the takeover of Sheik Yassim will be made “soon”.

Sheikh Jassim’s latest bid for a 100 per cent stake in United is said to be worth around £5bn.
