MANCHESTER UNITED believe they will land Harry Kane this summer – if Tottenham finish outside the top 4.
Old Trafford bosses reckon if Spurs miss out on a Champions League spot, they will see their £100million price tag cut.
United have been in touch with Kane’s camp through a third party and have been heartened by the response.
Kane turns 30 in July – and has achieved his ambition to become Spurs’ all-time leading scorer.
While United were defeated 7-0 at Anfield on Sunday, there’s still a belief Kane has a better chance of finally lifting a trophy at Old Trafford than at Tottenham.
The England captain’s £200,000-a-week contract expires at the end of next season and if he doesn’t reach the Champions League, suitors will be in a better position to negotiate a lower fee.
Kane said in January that “not much had been discussed” with Spurs about a new deal, but he was “sure there will be talks in the coming months”.
Champions Manchester City are out of the running after failing to sign the striker in 2021.
They have since signed Erling Haaland and the Norwegian has 27 prem goals in the Golden Boot race.
Kane has 18 and United’s Marcus Rashford has 14.

The Red Devils need another goalscorer to make them title challengers next season.
Cristiano Ronaldo left the team in November and now his loan replacement Wout Weghorst has scored just one goal in 14 appearances.
Spurs are currently fourth but lost 1-0 at Wolves on Saturday – while resurgent Liverpool are just three points behind with a game in hand.
