There is no option or obligation to buy the 68-cap Austria international who is included in the move.

United didn’t announce the move before the 11pm deadline but did file a deal sheet to give them an extra hour to get it over the line.

Upon joining United, Sabitzer said: “Sometimes in life you have to make quick and important decisions.

“From the moment I heard about this opportunity I knew it was the right thing for me. I’m a competitive player, I want to win and help the club achieve their goals this season.

“I feel like I’m at my best as a player and I can bring a lot of experience and energy to the team.

“I’m looking forward to starting with my new team-mates and my new coach and showing my qualities to the Manchester United fans.”

Manchester United director of football John Murtough said: “Marcel is a player that we have watched for a long time. The opportunity came quickly and we knew he was someone with the ability and character to make a difference.

“He brings further quality to our squad and experience to the dressing room and we are all delighted to welcome him to Manchester United.”

The Red Devils dove into the transfer market on deadline day after Christian Eriksen was out for three months with an ankle injury.

On Tuesday, an agreement was reached that Sabitzer will join at short notice.

Sabitzer was seen at Munich Airport on Tuesday evening before flying to the UK.

Thousands of adoring United fans then stalked a private plane believed to be carrying the new signing as it flew to Manchester.

It landed just before 8pm before Sabitzer arrived at United’s Carrington headquarters about an hour later.

Sabitzer joined Bayern from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2021 but has struggled to secure a regular spot.

He has only made seven league starts this season, most recently against Borussia Dortmund in October.

However, due to Eriksen’s injury, Sabitzer could join the team straight away.

Boss Erik ten Hag is said to be a fan of the Austrian and United considered signing him last summer. Man Utd complete Bayern Munich star Marcel Sabitzer’s loan deal as club leave late on transfer deadline day
