The 51-year-old is said to have gone to his local pub, where protesters were gathering to speak directly to fans.

He spent time chatting with supporters about the current state of affairs at Old Trafford.

United fans protested against the owners, the Glazers, for running the club on several occasions throughout the season.

And tonight, Arnold admitted that much of the £1billion spent on player entrances in recent years has been wasted by the club.

But he promised new boss Erik ten Hag he would be given financial support in the transfer market this summer.

A fan managed to record part of the conversation with Arnold and posted the discussion on Twitter.

Those who spoke to Arnold said he told them club officials are currently in Barcelona trying to finalize a deal for midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

Ten Hag has identified De Jong as one of the players he wants to help him bring United back into the silverware battle.

It is also claimed Ten Hag informed United bosses of his summer goals and the club took action to try and recruit his preferred staff.

Although Arnold admitted plans to build a new stadium or upgrade the club’s Carrington training base would require huge investments at the club.

SunSport have reached out to Manchester United for comment.
