Man Utd boss Ralf Rangnick asks players to stop whining about him on social media after Lingard and Martial have sex

RALF RANGNICK has asked the players to stop whining about him on social media.

Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial both caused a storm at Manchester United after contradicting their manager’s comment.

When asked if it was better arranged behind closed doors, Rangnick said: “It is always better. I have never read or communicated using those social media accounts.

“I don’t exist there and won’t have time to do that, so it’s always better and I always speak directly to the players.

“I did it with Anthony Martial and Jesse but maybe I’m from a different generation. My generation didn’t grow up with those things.

“I can even recall a time when there were no cell phones or internet, so for me it was better to communicate face to face.

“I know in both cases what I said to the players and what happened so for me there is no point in discussing this anymore.”

Rangnick claims Martial already has refused to be in the squad for United’s 2-2 draw against Aston Villa in the tournament last month. He has since being loaned to Sevilla.

Last week, the boss said Lingard’s request to quit after a loan move to Newcastle had collapsed due to Mason Greenwood’s suspension.

Lingard took to social media to deny thisclaim the club has advised him to take time off.

He will be back in the squad for tonight’s trip to Burnley for the tournament as will Edinson Cavani, who was controversially granted two extra days off to stay in Uruguay after last week’s international duty.

Initially, Rangnick said jet lag would rule him out of the starting lineup for Friday’s FA Cup game against Boro.

But on Monday, he admitted Cavani could come on from the bench in extra time if he were there.

“Given his original travel schedule, he couldn’t be available for that match,” he said. Maybe he can sit on the bench and come on in extra time, maybe.

“But even with him, if you miss a lot of those opportunities, and we have enough top-quality players to not miss those chances, then it’s not fair to talk about it.

“Edinson asked me two days after the West Ham game if he could stay in Uruguay for another day or two.

“We didn’t know anything about Mason Greenwood, this only came out a week later, and this is why we allowed him to stay in Uruguay for another day or two and come back for the Burnley game.

“Regarding Jesse, I have a very good relationship with him. He knew I would be willing to let him go at least until the matter with Mason was brought up.

“He mentioned some personal issues. We have to look ahead, there aren’t any problems between me and Jesse and vice versa. I’m happy to have him in the squad.”

United will be without Fred and Alex Telles after the Brazilian couple tested positive for Covid.

“We are short of two players,” Rangnick said. Alex missed the cup game because he tested positive for COVID last week and unfortunately the same happened today with Fred. That is why he will be absent for tomorrow’s game and possibly against Southampton.”
