Keane calls Maguire ‘shameful’ and ‘disgrace to Man United’ after muting the crowd watching his goal for England against Albania.

But Solskjaer said: “His family, his club, we are all very happy with him and all support him and he is a top professional and he will prove the critics wrong.

“The so-called experts have their opinions and it’s their job to give their opinion, it’s not something we have to worry about too much.

“As a true example of a Man United player, Harry was always there for his team and his country.”

Maguire’s struggles have added pressure on Solskjaer, who yesterday insisted both the fans and board remained supportive of him.

He said: “Anyway, I have been in contact and communicated with the club as I always do.

“The players, the staff, myself, the club, we are working towards a goal of improving, getting better results, the fans are still supporting the team and the club. , they went through this phase, assist the team rebuild. ”

There have been calls to strip Maguire of the captain’s armband during his astonishing decline in form as United have won just once in six Premier League games.

But Solskjaer said: “No, I have not considered taking any of the captain’s armbands from him.

“He’s been an absolute mainstay for us on and off the pitch since he arrived.”

As a former United captain, Keane has the opposing views he has aired as a TV pundit following England’s 5-0 win over Andorra last week.

Keane said: “When a player puts his hand to his ear, he is like silencing the critics. But I think that’s embarrassing.

“He is a disgrace to Man United. He thought he scored there, he shut down his critics, shame. “

Some of Maguire’s United teammates felt he was rushed back into action too quickly after a calf injury.

He had only one training session after a three-week break but was sent straight away against Leicester on 16 October which United lost 4-2.

He has become lacking in pace in successive home defeats to Liverpool 5-0 and Manchester City 2-0.

But Solskjaer says his determination not to whine and get back on the pitch is something both he and Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate like about him.

He said: “Harry, as Gareth righty said, he’s not one to hide on the treatment table or try to find any excuse to sit out the games.

“Harry is a top professional who wants to be there for the manager wherever he is and he has been training really well. Going away and scoring a double for his country will help his form and confidence. ”
