Only Cristiano Ronaldo on £480,000 a week and goalkeeper David de Gea on £375,000 a week will earn more at Old Trafford.
United’s director of football John Murtough has made progress in finalizing the deal for the Brazil international and former Real Madrid team-mate of Ronaldo in recent days.
The club are hoping to confirm a deal ahead of Monday’s Premier League clash with Liverpool.
It will be a much-needed boost for the ailing Red Devils, who bottom in the Premier League after losing their opening two games.
Their summer recruitment drew criticism as they added just three players in left-back Tyrell Malacia, centre-back Lisandro Martinez and midfielder Christian Eriksen.
United have failed to get a deal over the line for their No. 1 target Frenkie de Jong.
Chelsea are now in pole position for him but the player still refuses to leave Barcelona until they settle his retrospective wages, which are believed to be around £20million.
United turned their attention to Juventus’ Adrien Rabiot, while Murtough flew to Turin to meet his agent and his mother Veronique.

This deal fell through due to wage demands.
Now it looks like United will pull it off.
Casemiro was at Real Madrid for almost a decade after moving there from Sao Paulo in 2013.
Since then he has been a regular and has won five Champions Leagues, three La Ligas and three Club World Cups.
He will rejoin his old pal Raphael Varane, who joined Old Trafford from the Bernabeu a year ago.
Casemiro, who has 63 caps for Brazil, will also join forces with international team-mate Fred.
