Man Utd ‘are asking West Ham to pay £80m for Harry Maguire double transfer… but the ex-captain will cost LESS than his team-mate’

MANCHESTER UNITED are reportedly demanding £80m from West Ham for the double transfer of Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay.

However, the majority of this part goes to the 26-year-old Scotland midfielder rather than the former Red Devils captain.

SuNSport reported the Hammers made a £60million double bid for Maguire and McTominay yesterday.

David Moyes’ side have finally found momentum in this summer’s transfer market, having initially agreed a £35m deal for Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez, who is expected to undergo a medical in London in the next 24 hours.

And the East Londoners are now looking to make a bold attempt to sign both defenders Maguire and McTominay.

Moyes is a huge admirer of the pair having made the England centre-back one of his top priorities.

Maguire, who joined Manchester from Leicester in 2019 for £80million, has fallen out of favor at Old Trafford under Erik ten Hag after he was recently stripped of his captaincy and made just eight Premier League starts last season.

And West Ham have also been negotiating with United over McTominay for several weeks.

Scotland star McTominay has fallen down the rankings at United after Mason Mount has moved from Chelsea and Casemiro has featured prominently in Ten Hag’s plans.

Now they are hoping for a double whammy if an agreement is reached.

However, The times claim their offer falls “below United’s rating of the players”.

They claim last season’s Carabao Cup winners are asking between £40m and £45m for McTominay and that they want around £35m for Maguire.

An original £20m bid from West Ham was rejected this summer. SunSport understand the club have upped that offer and held talks over wages, which could prove to be a stumbling block.

Following Maguire’s recent pay rise following her Champions League qualification, an agreement that works for all parties, including the Red Devils, is needed.

He now earns around £200,000 a week, a figure far more than any other West Ham player.

Ten Hag is happy that both Maguire and McTominay are staying and fighting for their places and will not oust either player.

However, this new update says it will allow both “for a sizable fee.”

McTominay has impressed in pre-season so far and recently captained United against Borussia Dortmund.

Meanwhile, Maguire is still considered a key squad player, although he is now practically the fourth choice at center-back behind Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof.

It now remains to be seen whether West Ham will return with an improved offer for the duo ahead of the Premier League opener in Bournemouth.
