Man Utd and Tottenham in David Raya transfer push as Brentford field £11.5m summer replacement

MAN UNITED and Tottenham have been given a boost in their attempts to sign David Raya.

The shot-stopper, 27, has become one of the most sought-after goalkeepers in the Premier League after his impressive performances for Brentford.

The Spain international is keen for a challenge after turning down two contract offers to stay with the Bees.

His current contract expires at the end of next season and the club are now reportedly planning a move for his potential replacement for Netherlands international goalkeeper Mark Flekken.

The Freiburger had an outstanding season and helped the Black Forest minnows to fourth place in the German Bundesliga.

Flekken, 28, has won four caps since making his senior debut in the Netherlands last year.

He built his career at German lower division clubs Alemannia Aachen, Greuther Fürth and MSV Duisburg before Freiburg signed him in 2018.

They want to offer the Enschede-born goalkeeper a new deal with a release clause higher than the £11.44million in his existing contract.

Freiburg’s sports director Klemens Hartenbach said: “We don’t want to wait until May.

“We want to clarify Mark’s situation so that we can make concrete plans.”

It’s a boost for Man United and Spurs as Brentford will be more willing to make deals without risking being tight in the crucial position.

The west Londoners’ scouting system has consistently resulted in them finding quality players missed by their money-hungry rivals.

And Flekken could now become the latest little-known capture to shine under Thomas Frank at GTech Community Stadium.
