Man Utd ‘agree £74m fee to transfer Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong as Erik ten Hag nears top summer destination’

MANCHESTER UNITED have reportedly agreed a deal worth up to £74million for top target Frenkie de Jong.

New Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag has made former Ajax star De Jong his No 1 target at Old Trafford.

United have been locked in negotiations with Barcelona for weeks and appear to have finally made a breakthrough.

Corresponding Fabrizio Romanothe Red Devils have agreed to initially pay £56m for the midfielder.

He claims the ‘total package’ after add-ons will rise to £74million.

ESPN adds that the exact nature of the performance-based add-ons is yet to be fully agreed.

The personal terms have yet to be clarified, and talks are expected to continue this week.

Ten Hag is hoping to have De Jong available for United’s pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia next month.

The Red Devils fly east on July 8th.

United are desperate to strengthen their midfield following a string of high-profile departures.

Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata have all left on free transfers.

United are also hoping to lure Christian Eriksen to Old Trafford, although the Dane could choose to stay at Brentford.

The Red Devils are also keen on Ajax winger Antony, although they are still a long way from the Eredivisie side’s £70m valuation.
