A MAN accused of stabbing his sister with a bayonet is said to have called the police afterwards and told them she was a “witch”.
Anthony Dibella, 51, allegedly repeatedly stabbed Wanda Paoli, 67, in the head, neck and face with a bayonet blade and awl in the small town of Lyme, New York, according to court documents.
Dibella then told police he killed her because she “got in my way of communicating with God” and that he was “done with her witchcraft,” the newspapers said.
He was charged with second-degree murder and two counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
The brother and sister had been living with their 89-year-old mother at 6782 Failing Shores Lane on the Point Peninsula when the alleged murder took place.
Police said Dibella called them to report that he had stabbed his sister at her home.
According to Jefferson County dispatchers, they received a call from a man named Tony who said “Wanda Paoli is being killed, she is a witch, killed with a knife and awl and is currently on the porch.”
When officers arrived at the scene just before 11:30 a.m. on April 28, they found Paoli dead on a front porch and handcuffed Dibella.
First responders tried to save Paoli, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police officers found her mother unharmed in the house.
According to police, Dibella told them, “I had to do what I did to her because she stood in my way of communicating with God.”
They said he went on to talk about how “people worship rocks and dirt instead of God.”
The documents, seen by CBS affiliate WWNY, also include a statement from Dibella’s brother Russell Dibella in Texas.
He reportedly told police he spoke to Dibella on the phone, with his brother allegedly telling him “I killed her” and “I stabbed her in the head”.
Anthony Dibella is being held without bail in the county jail.
