A man staying at an Airbnb decided to cover up the hotel’s camera while there – but there were mixed opinions as to whether he was right.
The owner shared a video on TikTok of a guest staying at their property, draped over the Ring doorbell.
inside videotapes, they wrote: “That time, an Airbnb guest [thought] that it’s a good idea to put a town through Ring’s camera. “
The host then called them “skinheads” with the hashtag “stupid squad”.
The video has been viewed more than 3.6 million times, with some saying they agree with what he did.
One said: “Me too. I don’t want someone watching me come and go.”
Another wrote: “This reinforces that I will always stay at hotels. Imagine going out to talk on the phone and someone just listening in.
Another agreed: “I mean I understand why they do that. Makes me uncomfortable knowing someone knows I’m in and out every second.”
One mother commented: “I did it with the camera on the pool. I wasn’t comfortable with the camera and my kids were wearing swimsuits.”
Others disagree, and say guests are often told about the camera before they make a reservation.
Someone said: “It’s not an invasion of privacy. Airbnb has strict rules about how many guests they can allow at once. Easy way to track.”
Another warned: “It’s not even in the house, so they’re definitely doing something they shouldn’t.”
One said: “Hotels have cameras in their lobbies… this makes no difference.”
Owners have since shared some of their worst guest stories, including noisy parties, carpet burns and even police being called in.
Last week, a mother said she was charged a £200 “damage fee” when she checked out for the holiday, after being told she wasn’t vacuuming enough.
And another woman was stunned by an “inappropriate” Airbnb request – ask her to water the flowers twice a day.
