Man City’s Benjamin Mendy appeared in court TODAY accused of a range of sex offenses including seven counts of rape

BENJAMIN Mendy will appear in court today charged with a series of sex crimes.

The Manchester City star, 27, is charged with seven counts of rape, one count of attempted rape and another count of sexually assaulting six women over the age of 16.

France international Mendy will arrive at Chester Crown Court, Cheshire, later this morning.

One of the alleged crimes took place just three days before he was charged last August.

The two allegedly committed the crime while on bail by police after he was further arrested in November.

Mendy is also accused of raping a woman three times at his Cheshire mansion in October 2020.

And the footballer is accused of sexually assaulting a woman in early January 2021.

Mendy was released on bail in January after being held for 134 days after being arrested in August.

Judge Patrick Thompson released him from prison in a separate hearing but imposed a list of “strict” conditions.

He had to hand over his passport and not contact the complainants.

Mendy also had to stay at her £4.8million six-bedroom mansion in Cheshire.

Co-defendant Louis Saha Matturie, 40, was charged with 10 counts involving seven women, including seven counts of raping five women and three counts of sexual assault.

An interim trial date was set for June, but this has been pushed back until July 25.

Premier League champions Man City spent £49.2m to sign Mendy from Monaco in 2017.

He last played for the club on 15 August in a 0–1 loss to Tottenham at the start of the season before being suspended.

In a statement, the club said: “Manchester City can confirm that after he was charged by police today, Benjamin Mendy has been suspended pending an investigation.

“The matter is subject to a legal process and therefore the club cannot comment further until that process is complete.”
