Man City star Jack Grealish reveals playing with Aaron Ramsdale for England helped him score against Arsenal

Kevin De Bruyne put City ahead with a great chip goal before Bukayo Saka equalized with a penalty.

But Grealish’s smart finish saw City take the lead with just 18 minutes to go before Erling Haaland’s late try sealed the win.

Grealish has now revealed he took advantage of Ramsdale’s decision making after becoming close friends with the goalkeeper in the England camps.

The winger says he knew Ramsdale would expect the ball to be reversed after a pass from Ilkay Gundogan.

And that allowed Grealish to make the decision to pin the ball home before wisely deciding NOT to take his shirt off – or else get sent off.

Grealish said: “I know Gundo and I knew he would pass. He’s so selfless and I knew he’d make it. Him and Kev, obviously Kev loves getting assists.

“Of course, when the ball came, I try to cross the goalkeeper. I wanted to reverse it, but then I know Rammers [Aaron Ramsdale] from England and we always have banter so I figured he’ll think I’ll try to reverse it.

“I deserved one of them, just a distraction or something. I was going to take my shirt off but realized I already had a yellow card so it was a good thing I didn’t.”

Reflecting on the win, Grealish added, “It was tremendous. For me it was obviously a great night, that’s what I wanted to do, especially lately, I feel like I played well.

“I want to come and influence these big games. Last month I scored at Old Trafford to make it 1-0 and I was excited thinking I’m going to take the winner here and then we went and conceded twice so it didn’t really mean anything .

“But of course it was so important to score here tonight and I’m really happy for myself and for the team.

“You get these must-win games where you talk to each other and everyone was so focused on the game and even myself I was so in the mood and stayed off my phone.

“We just had to win today, that’s what I thought about and luckily we did it.

“If I’m honest I don’t think we played that well, I thought Arsenal were the better team but if you want to win trophies you have to get to those places and win games and that’s what I and Riyad said on the bench.”
