Gündogan was Pep Guardiola’s first signing in 2016 and has always been a key squad member in the juggernaut-winning machine the Spaniard has built.
But Juventus are circling now as they try to strengthen their midfield.
Calcio Mercato reports that pressured boss Massimiliano Allegri is keen to add skill and cunning to the middle of the park.
Both domestically and in Europe, the old lady had a difficult start to the season.
And Allegri wasn’t helped by injuries from the likes of Paul Pogba and Federico Chiesa.
If the German star didn’t renew his deal at Etihad, he would be available for free next summer and sign a preliminary deal with foreign clubs from January.
But he remains an important part of the squad and has started six of City’s nine Premier League games this season, scoring twice and assisting once.
In fact, his only thorny moment this season came when his wife criticized restaurants in Manchester – despite Guardiola owning a tapas joint.
There were also complications with his contract.
Guardiola has previously dispensed with key squad members including Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko in the summer.

Despite those losses, City have started the season in frightening form.
They are unbeaten this season and only sit second due to Arsenal’s quick start.
The Citizens will experience their most difficult test of the season in Liverpool on Sunday.
