Man City fans taking the pitch brutally taunt Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard with a ‘slip’ chant after beating Aston Villa

MANCHESTER CITY fans mocked Steven Gerrard after he came from behind to beat his Aston Villa side 3-2.

But the win also denied Gerrard’s beloved Liverpool the league title after they too struggled to beat Wolves.

City also beat Liverpool to the league title in 2014, thanks in part to Gerrard’s infamous error in the 2-0 defeat by Chelsea.

City fans reminded the former Reds of that incident, chanting: “Steve Gerrard, Gerrard, he slipped on his frigging ass.”

City supporters took to the pitch in their thousands to goad Stevie G but left the Aston Villa boss furious for another reason.

Gerrard was upset in his post-match press conference because his goalkeeper, Robin Olsen, was attacked by the pitch invaders.

There were several examples of fans invading the pitch being swept away this week, with a Nottingham Forest fan being jailed for a headbutt on Sheffield United captain Billy Sharp.

Exuberant City fans jumped on one of the goals and eventually smashed it in half – but that didn’t deter the cheering in the least.

Others swarmed over talisman Kevin De Bruyne and the midfielder had to be escorted to safety by stewards.

The city has apologized to Olsen and confirmed an investigation will be launched to look into the incident.

A statement said: “Manchester City would like to offer their sincere apologies to Aston Villa goalkeeper Robin Olsen who was tackled after the final whistle of today’s game as the fans took the field.

“The club has launched an immediate investigation and after identifying the person responsible, an indefinite stadium ban will be issued.”

Despite the final result, Gerrard was happy with the way his side played for 70 minutes, with Matty Cash and Philippe Coutinho giving his side a surprising 2-0 lead.

But City showed why they are champions with three goals in five minutes to produce another historic day at the Etihad.
