MANCHESTER CITY could offer young midfielder James McAtee as a makeweight to sign Marc Cucurella this summer.
The champions have made the 23-year-old Brighton Spanish full-back one of their top targets for the current window.
However, Cucurella is likely to cost more than £40million after winning the Player of the Year award for the Seagulls last season.
And the Etihad giants will look for ways to bring the price down.
City are evaluating options for several of their young players – including McAtee, who was the subject of Brighton transfer interest in 2021.
They are in no rush to sell the 19-year-old but may be willing to allow him to go on loan to gain first-team experience.
Pep Guardiola is known to be a fan of the style played by Graham Potter’s teams.
So the Amex could be seen as a useful stepping stone for McAtee.
City are confident they can fight Chelsea to land Cucurella if Albion decide to cash in.
Cucurella was pursued by Guardiola before leaving Barcelona for Getafe in 2020.
